The Importance of the Bible School

The Bible School is the strength of the congregation. Seventy-five to eighty-five percent of the conversions are reported to be assisted by the Bible School. Since Christianity is a taught religion, churches are only as strong as they are taught. We live what we learn (cf. Acts 1:1) and teach what we are taught (II Timothy 2:2).

The Bible School program of the local church is its backbone. The Chinese said it this way, "If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate a person." Daniel Webster philosophized, "If we work upon marble, it will perish. If we work upon brass, time will efface it. If we rear temples, they will crumble into dust. But if we work upon men's immortal minds, if we imbue them with high principles, we engrave on those tables something only time can efface and which will brighten all eternity."

Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, was a teacher, yea, the Master Teacher. Forty-one times in his biographies He is called a teacher (23 times by friends, 12 by enemies, six by Himself). Teaching is at the beginning and heart of all conversion (John 6:44,45) and spiritual growth (I Peter 2:2; Acts 20:32). The word teach is used 109 times in the Bible (with synonyms, 148), showing its importance to Christianity.

We believe that Bible Classes should be interesting and challenging.

Children who know the lyrics to popular songs and can give your complete scientific descriptions of dinosaurs can surely learn the apostles and Old Testament stories! Teenagers who can learn calculus and physics can certainly learn Christ and Paul. Adults who know how to fix cars and meals, run computers and expensive machinery, and who are among the best educated and most widely exposed of all peoples in the worlds history, certainly can understand the Bible and memorize some key verses.

    Faithful Finances 101”

Our country, as well as most of the world, is dealing with challenging economic circumstances.  Nationally, unemployment is at higher levels than we’ve seen in decades.  Concern for the long-term effects of rising energy costs, financial markets’ instability, and other weak economic factors weighs on the minds of many Americans throughout the land.  Families struggle to meet their financial obligations on a monthly basis.  What can we do to endure these uncertain times?

During the month of December we will have a class we’re calling “Faithful Finances 101”.  This class is designed to consider the many principles of stewardship and resource management found in God’s Word and combine it with meaningful, practical ideas about how to create, monitor, and maintain a personal/family budget.  Utilizing God’s wisdom in the areas of proper use and perspective of His blessings are valuable tools for us in our daily money management.  Various worksheets and tools to assist us will be available, but we also hope to share classmate ideas of resources they have found useful in their families’ efforts to manage their household budgets.

Everyone is invited to participate in this class; we will be meeting in the Fellowship Room starting Dec. 6.  Please use the sign-up sheet in the hallway to indicate your desire to attend so we can have enough materials available.

Keeping the proper attitude about our financial resources is a challenge we each face daily.  Satan uses it as a tool to keep mankind from giving his all in service to God (Mark 10:17-25).  Jesus tells us we have to choose which master we will serve, either God or mammon (Matt. 6:24).  We ask you to begin praying that our study together will better equip us as stewards of God’s blessings and that it will encourage us to maintain the proper attitude about the possessions He has given to us.
